Natural ways to mantain natural locks

Natural hair is popularly becoming a trend, and more celebrities are embracing their natural locks. Articles about taking care of natural hair have been written countless times but they all forget outline one thing, natural hair requires dedication and patience and healthy natural practices. Below are ways that can help you grow your natural hair to its best potential.

1. Know your hair type.

This is the first golden rule and it applies to all types of hair. Knowing your hair type will make it easier for you to choose the right products to use. These products include shampoos, conditioners and moisturizers.

2. Consume nutritious diet.

Foods like avocados, olive oil and almonds are some of the goods ‘fatty foods’ that are reported to be good for your hair. Interestingly these products are the same ones you would find as ingredients on your hair products.

3. Wash your hair regularly

Water is the best form of moisturizer and cleanser as it is natural and contains no harmful chemicals. Wash your natural hair at least twice a week to keep it clean and hydrated. Remember to condition your hair after every wash, this is to ensure your hair doesn’t dry out and break easily.

4. Air dry

Instead of using a hair dryer to dry your hair, opt for air dry. This because hairdryers tend to have too much hot air which then dries the hair. A recent 2016 study recently reported that air-drying is healthier for your hair even though it takes longer. As previously stated, natural practices are best for natural hair.

5. Loosely plait your hair.

Wearing your hair as plaits or knots before sleeping helps to prevent shrinkage, loss of moisture and tangling. Make sure you braid your precious locks before bedtime to save on time and money.

6. Use wide toothed comb

Small toothed combs, tight brushes and hot styling appliances tend to break the hair making your hair prone to hair loss. Comb gently and slowly from the ends to the roots to avoid unnecessary pulling of the scalp.
