#MissSAChallenge – Gloves Conundrum

Last week, the #MissSAChallenge had social media buzzing. This was due to the backlash that the current Miss South Africa, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, received after being photographed wearing gloves while volunteering to feed underprivileged children at a soup kitchen in Soweto.

Nel-Peters posted a video explaining that everyone on site that day wore gloves to be as hygienic as they could possibly be as they were handling food. “I really feel like my intentions were completely misunderstood. To me the moral of the story of today was that 300 kids got a proper warm lunch and they got that with or without gloves.”

However some did not believe that reason and started posting pictures of them wearing gloves in humorous situations under #MissSAChallenge.

Not everyone seemed to take offence to the incident and have shown their support to Miss SA on social media.

The 21 year old also apologized for the misunderstanding in her video. “I am a bit saddened that my intentions were taken up completely wrong and I really apologize if I offended anybody, it definitely was not my intention and I’m sorry about that. I really hope that you can see my heart, and you can see the true intentions that went into today.”
