10 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ACTRESS, DEBORAH LETTNER

Deborah Lettner is an actress, producer and speaker. Besides her commercial work, she is currently shortlisted for a major international film shooting in London in the last quarter of 2017 alongside 2 Hollywood Actors.
She is a born and bred Jozi girl, although her roots are Swiss and Austrian, which makes her fluent in German as well as English and Afrikaans. She has travelled extensively and lived abroad in the U.S., U.K. and Germany, but feels home will always be in South Africa.
We caught up with Deborah and got to know the talented actress a bit better.

  • 1. I was fake Katy Perry on an East Coast Radio April fool’s prank. Even the station manager apparently bought it (https://www.ecr.co.za/shows/new-40-41/ricky-carol-prank-darren-fake-katy-perry-interview/)
  • 2. I love horse riding so much I was once dragged behind a horse as a child, and after having a little cry, I refused to leave on my father’s suggestion because my hour wasn’t up yet so I got right back on.
  • 3. I had a flight out of New York booked on September 16th 2001. Luckily I changed it and left earlier, so I was in Barcelona when the towers came down.
  • 4. I can be extremely spontaneous. I once decided to move to London. It was less than two weeks between making the decision and being on the plane.
  • 5. I love Formula 1. As a child I was taken to a formula 3000 (I think it was) race at Kyalami and fell in love. For a while I wanted to be a race car driver. Some people say it shows in my driving.
  • 6. I don’t know my left from my right half the time, but I love maps. Actual maps. I miss them. I used to be a bit of a nerd at finding sneaky short cuts and new routes on maps, like the precursor to waze. If you draw me a picture, I’ll find it.
  • 7. I’m a bit of a gypsy and love to travel. Up until the end of 2012, when I got back to JHB from Berlin, I hadn’t really lived anywhere for more than 2 years after leaving home.
  • 8. I’m an absolute foodie and not a bad cook. I would rather eat at home than at restaurants that aren’t really trying.
  • 9. I once expressed my disinterest in cricket to a man, who turned out to be an ex cricket player. I had no idea. #fail
  • 10. I learned how to sail, thanks to the father of a childhood friend, being an avid sailor and ended up teaching girl scouts how to sail in the US for a while. My friend was awarded SA colours for sailing. I’m still a huge fan!

Her passion for the film industry has extended beyond merely being in front of the camera and she has a long history of working in casting, and also spent a number of years in production, where she swiftly worked her way up from cast co-ordinator to line-producer in the TV commercial field.
