The Miss Universe pageant took place last week in Las Vegas, Nevada and South Africa’s Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters walked away with the title of Miss Universe.
This year marked the 66th year of the Miss Universe and represented 92 countries, including Iraq, Malta, Laos and Nepal and 117 million fan votes were submitted world wide throughout the competition.
Steve Harvey hosted the show with Ashley Graham, model and entrepreneur, as backstage host. Among the judges were Miss Universe 1998, Wendy Fitzwilliam, TV Personalities Jay Manuel and Ross Mathews, YouTube personality Lele Pons, entrepreneur Farouk Shami, UFC correspondent Megan Olivi and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach.
“The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) is a global community that empowers women to realize their goals through experiences that build self-confidence and create opportunities for success. MUO believes that every woman should be “Confidently Beautiful”.” says the Miss Universe Organization. “The contestants and titleholders are leaders and role models in their communities, develop personal and professional goals, and inspire others to do the same.”
Nel-Peters took the top spot, winning over Miss Universe Colombia, Laura González, who was first runner up and Miss Universe Jamaica, Davina Bennett, who was second runner up.
Congratulations to the new Miss Universe, who hopes her workshops will expand internationally to help as many women as possible.
