It’s sad that in recent times relationships or marriages don’t seem to last as long as they used to. There can be many different reasons for that and a common one is cheating. Cheating comes about unexpectedly. One minute you’re on cloud nine, basking in the solidness of your relationship and the next minute they’re dropping the cheating bombshell on you. That can be enough to end any relationship. Or maybe it won’t.
So can cheating be forgiven? There are those who would say that it can’t and I’m inclined to agree with them. Cheating is a conscience decision that somebody makes. You can’t accidentally cheat on someone so when someone claims it was a mistake you have to wonder if it really was. By doing it you are choosing to betray your significant other, you are choosing to hurt them and break the trust that every relationship is built on. Some people don’t want to be in a relationship with someone who would choose to do that.
Other people would say that it is forgivable, but it depends on certain things. The saying ‘once a cheater always a cheater’ isn’t completely true. One time offenders that seriously regret their actions have an easier time of being forgiven.
At the end, you have to ask yourself if the is relationship really worth it. If it isn’t, then it’s best to cut and run before it happens again and avoid further heartbreak. If it is, then you have to decide if you can truly forgive the act. If you can and they are genuinely sorry, are willing to do whatever it takes to make it up to you and to rebuild the trust between you then maybe it can forgive them.
There are couples who have moved passed cheating. Couples who choose to let cheating be something that they move past to make them stronger and those who choose to let it be the reason it ends. Whatever the verdict may be, you have to choose what you think you deserve. If you can forgive and forget, then good for you. If not, there’s someone else out there for you, just keep looking.
