It is always great when you know you will be jet setting overseas to a beautiful location with all sorts of different activities and especially delicious cuisine. If you are like me and like to keep it healthy when traveling before you get to the destination then here are some great tips as to how!
Firstly there is the ever so daunting airplane flight; sitting cooped up in a plan for over seven hours is never that great even with the endless movies to watch. Being stuck in a small area over a long period of time can be difficult for even the most patient of people.
The first step is to ensure you are comfortable, for many of us where an upgrade to business or first class isn’t always financially feasible. When traveling economy, try to reserve a seat on the aisle this will make it easier to go for a quick walk when you’re feeling restless. You will also be able to reach your legs out into the aisles to get a little more legroom.
Now that you are in the right seat devise a way to decrease any discomfort that may occur. Bringing along your own set of headphones or earplugs is essential as it eases out the noise of fellow passengers as well as give you the peace and quiet you need.
Thirdly it is important to keep the blood flowing especially in your feet, this will prevent soreness, swelling, and discomfort. The key is to do small kinds of exercises in a small controlled movement done consistently over time. Even if you’re only raising your toes, doing this for 10 – 20 repetitions several times over the course of your flight will help keep your body limber.
You may also need to consider your basic needs, as on many long flights, you will likely want to sleep or even take a nap. A bathroom kit is excellent for just this type of situation. That way when you wake up you can feel healthy and clean without the smell of “dragon breath”.
Lastly food, though many airlines offer a variety of meat, chicken, vegetarian, halaal and even vegan options. Sometimes these options may not seem always so healthy, rather than rely on what you are going to get fed on the plane preplan your meals. For example bring a healthy food bar with you, fruit or some nuts you can snack on throughout the trip. You are therefore less likely to feel guilty and can allow yourself to enjoy a delicious meal when you reach your destination.
Now have a safe flight, feel comfortable, be healthy and enjoy your journey!
