Avengers Infinity War has hit theatres around the world and has completely shattered movie records everywhere. The most anticipated movie of the year has definitely lived up to the hype and has crossed the $1 billion mark in just 11 days after its initial release, over taking the previous record holder, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Warning: Spoilers ahead.
No sooner than the movie begins are we met with the big bad of the movie decimating Asgardians, including two fan favourites. If that wasn’t a sign of things to come, nothing else would. The movie did a fantastic job of juggling it’s massive cast of around 64 characters, giving each character enough screen time while progressing the story at a good pace. We get to see Thor team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America still leading his band of rouge Avengers, Iron Man teaming up with Doctor Strange, Hulk and Spiderman and Thanos on his quest to retrieve the Infinity Stones.
One of the biggest anticipations of the fans were which characters were going to bite the dust and who would live to see another day. The two biggest candidates were Captain America and Iron Man, Marvels fan favourites. It then shocked the world when it was neither of these characters that were killed of but rather half of the ensemble cast.
That’s right. Once Thanos collected all six Infinity Stones, he snapped his fingers and wiped out half of the universe including characters such as Winter Soldier, Falcon, Black Panther, Scarlet Witch, Star Lord, Drax, Groot, Mantis, Doctor Strange and Spider Man who all turned into dust before our very eyes. It’s safe to say most people were a little shaken walking out of that theatre.
A movie filled with action and death is what Infinity delivers and it was incredible. Let’s face it, it’s a war and every war has its casualties. The movie ended on a cliff-hanger, leaving us anticipating next year’s untitled sequel. Marvel has been building up to this movie for ten years and they did an amazing job.
