Amazing Health Benefits Of Red Wine

A thousand years ago in the Golden Age of Ancient Greece- Red Wine was hailed as the elixir of the Gods. It was the drink of Emperors, Philosophers and common folk alike. If you’re anything like me, you have done well in keeping this legacy alive. There is just something timeless about sipping on a glass of the Burgundy liquid- and you don’t even have to wear a Toga or Laurel Wreath to do it anymore. Although, that still is entirely optional.

Even better for us Red Wine lovers- it has recently come to light that a Glass of Red a day could actually keep the doctor away. Amazing benefits have been found linked to drinking Red Wine, and it’s not just the warm fuzzy feeling it causes in the pit of your stomach. Research has shown it can reduce your risk of heart disease, improve cholesterol and aid in weight loss. An even bolder suggestion has been made recently, and that is that Red Wine could even slow the aging process.

Red Wine is chock full of compounds that promote heart health- including one known as resveratrol. Resveratrol is a powerful antioxidant that keeps the blood vessels in the heart healthy and prevents clots from forming, leading to lower risk of heart disease. As well as this, it also lowers bad cholesterol, and thus can be helpful to those who suffer from Diabetes.

Resveratrol is also what makes Red Wine the better option for those who are weight watching. We all know alcohol is a huge culprit in weight gain, what with the high sugar contents. However, Resveratrol in Red Wine may actually help to converting dormant, or “white”, fat into fats that the body actually burns off. White fat is the fat that sits around your body and makes you look flabby- the kind that takes months’ worth of back breaking gym sessions to tame. Resveratrol converts this fat into a fat your body will actually burn off relatively fast when you exercise. So a glass of wine coupled with regular exercise, and you will be good to go.

This is all good and well, but I am sure what we are all most interested in is this assertion that Red Wine could actually slow the effects of aging. A study conducted by Researchers at Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute in the USA found that Resveratrol can help to slow the effects of aging. It keeps skin healthy and glowing, keeps muscles healthy and functioning, and prevents various ailments associated with aging. Resveratrol keeps brain functioning healthy and keeps the mind sharp, thus lowering the risk of diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

Amazing, right?

However, Medical Professionals still urge people to drink in moderation, and stress the fact that despite the various health benefits- too much will be harmful in the long run. American MD Richard Baxter recommends a glass of Red Wine a day, and 2 at an absolute maximum, in order to reap the benefits without doing any damage.

So with all of this in mind, let us cheers to good health and youth, and enjoy a glass of Red. For what better way is there to end off a long day?
