A classic and timeless theme of a movie is a good old coming of age story. A coming of age story is a story revolving around someone making their way into adulthood. It is about their journey to becoming the person who they are. Let’s face it, these days it takes a lot longer to become the person you really are, no longer out of our teen years but more in our 20’s. So here is a list of movies to watch before you turn 30.
Breakfast Club
Probably the ultimate coming of age story about a group of five teenagers brought together to serve an afternoon of detention. All five of them are from completly different social circles, a brain, an athlete, a baskey case, a princess and a criminal. During detention the group learn more about each other and themselves and realize that they are much more than what others see them as.
Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants
The movie follows four friends who are about to go their seperate ways and devise a plan to stay connected to each other through a pair of pants that fit all four of them perfectly by passing it back and forth. They go through all kinds of experiences while apart, some good and some bad, and when they return to each other they are different people but still love each other just as much.
Legally Blonde
Elle Woods is your stereotypical blonde who gets dumped by her boyfriend because he needs someone more serious. Tired of being judged because of it, she sets out to get herself in Harvard law school to prove to everybody that she can do whatever she wants. The story sends a great message that you can do anything you set your mind to regardless of what others think.
Mean Girls
The greatest movie to ever be set in high school with drama, comedy and an inside look of high school. When new girl Cady goes to high school for the first time, fitting in is high on the to-do list. When she falls into the popular crowd, a group of three girls, she learns that popularity is’nt all that it’s cracked up to be. The movie shows that high school can sometimes be cruel but that’s only because we choose to make it like that.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower
A story about being true to who you are. The story follows a boy entering high school who prefers to fade into the background, a wallflower, as he befriends two other students just like him and learn that it’s alright to be different as long as that’s who you want to be.
