South Africa’s very own Trevor Noah goes one step further as his bestselling autobiography, Born a Crime, will be made into a movie.
The book has been a great success, gaining critical acclaim and winning two NAACP awards for bestseller. It was only a matter of time before the concept of a movie came up.
It was also revealed that Academy Award-winning actress, Lupita Nyong’o, will be portraying his mother in the film. Nyong’o, who has been praised for her recent performance in Black Panther, expressed her excitement for the role on Instagram. “When I read Trevor Noah’s Born A Crime, I could not put the book down. Excited to announce that I will be starring in and producing its feature film adaptation!”
The Daily Show host was also pleased with the decision, “My mom is a powerful woman who could easily be one of the beautiful soldiers in Wakanda. So it’s beyond a perfect fit that she would be portrayed on the big screen by the radiant and regal Lupita Nyong’o. I’m beyond excited,” he writes on Instagram.
