Kelly Khumalo
At the hands on her former partner, convicted murderer and rapper Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye, Khumalo was physically abused. However that turmoil didn’t stop here from pushing forward. She released an autobiography, had a reality TV show and recently guest judged on the latest season of Idols.
Chris Brown
In his new documentary, the musician reveals intimate details about the fateful night in which he assaulted his then -girlfriend, Rihanna. Although the musician seems remorseful, his ex-girlfriend Karruche Tran has a restraining order against him and she also accuses him of domestic abuse.
Charlize Theron
Although she wasn’t abused at the hands of a partner, the Oscar winning actress witnessed her late father regularly abuse her mother. Things escalated to such a point that her mother ended up shooting her father dead in self-defence in their home. Although traumatising, the experience did not deter her from becoming a world renowned actress. She recently visited South Africa along with Chelsea Handler and Trevor Noah (whose own mother also suffered abuse at the hands of Trevor’s stepfather)
Johnny DeppThe world’s most famous pirate had his estranged wife, Amber Heard, file both a restraining order and divorce papers on the grounds that he was physically abusive. She claimed his drinking and drug taking were the source of his violence. Despite the claims, Depp continues to be one of the most sought after actors in Hollywood.
Letoya Makhene
The former Generations actress spoke of how she dealt with abuse for nine-years at the hands of her ex-husband Privilege Mangezi.Columbus ShortThe former Scandal (The Fixer) actor was fired from the show after he allegedly attacked his wife, threatening to kill both her and himself.
Bonang Matheba
The South African celebrity accused her ex-boyfriend DJ Euphonik of physical abuse. Although she later dropped the charges, she referenced the incident in her autobiography; From A-B.
Other celebrities who have been accused of domestic violence include; Joe Budden, Bobby Brown, Charlie Sheen and Ike Turner.
