August 26 brings with it a truly momentous occasion in the sports industry. Floyd “Money” Mayweather goes head to head with UFC’s Conor McGregor in what is sure to be an epic clash.
The fight has been one of the most talked about topics, not just on social media, and is said to become the highest grossing fight in history. What else can you expect when boxing’s greatest star goes up against UFC’s biggest star?
Both of these sports stars are looking to make history, with Mayweather looking to extend his record to 50-0 and McGregor hoping to be the 1 in 49-1. If that’s not enough incentive for them, the winner will also receive The Money Belt.
The World Boxing Council (WBC) has created this prize especially for the winner. It is 1.5 KG 24 KT gold, studded with 3360 diamonds, 600 sapphires and 160 emeralds with crocodile leather.
With the fight fast approaching the big question remains, who will win? The odds are undoubtedly in Mayweather’s favor given his highly impressive 49-0 record, while this will be McGregor’s boxing debut. However McGregor hasn’t been counted out yet.
To South Africans looking to watch the prize fight, set your alarms because you’re going to have to be up pretty early. The match build up will begin at 3am on Sunday, August 27 with the actual fight starting after 5am, live on SuperSport.
