During the festive season, we tend to indulge in all sort of treats, overeating a lot of different yummy food. Waking up the next day feeling heavy and bloated. Here is how you can beat the morning after bloat.
Do not skip breakfast
You might think skipping a meal after that all-too-heavy meal the night before is a good idea; the best thing to do is to nudge your body back to its normal routine. Start with a light-fibre rich breakfast. This will help you avoid any cravings or hunger pangs.
Hydrate yourself
The feeling of bloating after overeating usually comes from all the fluids your body is holding on to due to all the sodium-rich food you had, making your body feeling heavy, not just around your stomach.
Drinking more fluids when your body already has an excess might not make sense.
Drinking a decent amount of water will help flush out some of that sodium and make your body release excess fluids, which will make you feel less distended. Drink as much as you can and keep sipping on water throughout the day.
Eat potassium rich food
Potassium is excellent at helping the body get rid of excess fluids. Food such as bananas, avocados, spinach and sweet potato are a great option.
Sip some hot tea
This can help soothe your gut and relieve some of the gas that might be causing you discomfort. If you want something mild, opt for mint tea or chamomile
