A forty year musical journey sadly comes to an end as Johnny Clegg embarks on his final tour entitled The Final Journey.
The Grammy nominated artist has had an amazing career and the tour will feature all of his great hits through the years. He is a singer, songwriter, dancer, anthropologist and musical activist and has won several South African and International awards including a Billboard Music Award for Best World Music Album.
“This will be my final set of public performances for my fans in SA and around the world. I am immensely excited to be able to bring them an autobiographical, audio-visual and intimate account of my life through my music and The Dance.” said Clegg on his official website.
The South African musician played an important part in uniting our country with his music in a time of cultural and racial segregation and he will always be one of the best musical acts we have ever seen. The music created during his time in his bands, Juluka and Savuka, was all about seeing hope for a non-racial future in South Africa. He has produced hit such as “December African Rain”, “I Call Your Name”, “African Sky Blue”, “African Shadow Man” and “Take My Heart Away”.
In 2015, Clegg was diagnosed with cancer and still continued touring while undergoing treatments. He is now in remission and is taking this time to embark on his final tour to thank his fans for all of the support they have given him over his career.
The tour kicked off on July 1st at Grand West Casino in Cape Town, followed by performances at the Teatro at Montecasino in Johannesburg on July 7th and 8th. The final stop will be in Durban where fans will get the opportunity to see him live at the ICC Arena on July 29th. He will then partake in an international part of the tour with performances in London and Dubai.
