When we were young and were asked what we wanted to be when we grow up, it seemed like we could say anything and it would be true. We could be a doctor, an astronaut or even a professional soccer player. As we grow older though, we realize that we have to seriously think about our answer.
Then comes the all-important question, do we choose to work after high school or do we choose to go to college? Both of these options are respectable choices. Some choose to further their education and some choose to make it on their own.
Thinking about our future can be a scary thing. Decisions will always be second guessed and that can feel like a ton of pressure is on you. To some people, having a perfect career is one of the most important things in life. As a result, it becomes common to choose a career path that is based on the money. Just because the job pays a lot, it seems like the best choice. That kind of choice can backfire spectacularly. What if you end up hating it? Do you really want to be stuck in a job that makes you miserable?
No matter what you choose, the key is to know what you love but most importantly know what you hate. If you find aspects of a career that you know you hate doing, then maybe it isn’t the right one for you. Your perfect career will be one that you will love doing wholeheartedly. Once you figure that out, it might be a little easier
Another important aspect to know is your strengths. What are you good at? What do you excel at? These are things about yourself that you have to know. Playing to your skills can help a lot. There has to be a reason you are good at it in the first place.
The most important thing however is to not be afraid. Fear can cause people to make hasty decisions. When you finally do make your choice, it must be with a clear head and determination. Choose something you believe is best for you and no one else. If it does end up being the wrong choice, just remember that life is filled with mistakes. It is up to us to learn from them.
