The greatest thing to come out of X Factor was without a doubt One Direction. Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Naill Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson each auditioned for the seventh season of the TV show but did not make it to boot camp and were then brought together to form the boy band we all know and loved. Maybe it was fate.
The band quickly gained popularity among fans, especially the girls, and their songs never failed to impress. However, like all boy bands, it had to end eventually. Hearts were broken around the world as the group announced their hiatus in 2016 but while 1D isn’t making music together, the guys are all on their own solo paths.
Malik was the first one to leave the band back in 2015. It was the first stone that was cast as losing even one member of the band felt like a heavy loss. His debut single, Pillowtalk, debuted at number 1 on the UK Singles Chart and US Billboard Hot 100. He has had many other hit songs such as Let Me and Dusk Till Dawn.
Styles also did well on his debut single that peaked at number 1 on the Billboard 200. Not only is he continuing his music career but has also ventured into the movie industry in the film Dunkirk. He has also been very vocal in regards to LGBTQ rights and the March For Our Lives movement.
Horan’s debut album Flicker debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200. He has had many other hit songs including This Town, Slow Hands and To Much To Ask.
Payne made his debut with a splash with his hip-hop inspired hit song Strip That Down which made the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. He recently released a Latin themed song , featuring J Balvin, Familiar.
Tomlinson chose to go a slightly different route than the rest, venturing into EDM. His debut single Just Hold On was accompanied by DJ Steve Aoki. He has also done songs such as Miss You and Back to You. He has yet to come out with an album but it is said to be in the works.
