While researching and writing about health hacks this winter, we started to think about how you can add a dash of wellness into your daily life without scarifying a ton of money and time.
This led to thinking about what we consume on a daily basis, and that would be coffee! And how we could make it a double, or even a triple duty for us each morning. The bonus, these tips will make you feel a little less guilty about your coffee addiction
So here, seven ingredients you never thought to add to your coffee (but should!).
Raw Eggs
Interesting right? It may sound the opposite of what you would like to be adding to your coffee but if you willing then here’s what to do: Add a raw egg to coffee grounds, toss them into boiling water and then strain the results into your cup. This supposedly neutralizes the acidity and makes coffee less bitter.
Salt
A way for reducing the bitterness of your beans? Salt. Add a pinch or two to your grounds before brewing to neutralize or mellow out your coffee. Afterward, you can probably use this as a scrub of some sort, too. Actually, we’d add salt to the egg-and-coffee concoction and smear that all over your face for the ultimate in morning multi-tasking. Some people also add a pinch of salt to their cup once the brewing is done.
Vanilla extract
If you like the vanilla flavor but don’t want all the added or that extra sugar from the flavored syrup! Try adding vanilla extract to your coffee grounds before brewing and/or add a dash to your cup once it’s ready to go.
Cardamom
Cardamom coffee is popular in the Middle East and is said to make you less jittery than a traditional American cup. Just add a dash of cardamom spice to your cup to relieve that intense feeling first thing in the morning.
Cinnamon
Try Cinnamon in Your Coffee Instead of Cream and Sugar. … For example, swapping the cream and sugar (roughly an ounce or 2 tablespoons) with a teaspoon of cinnamon could save up to 70 calories per cup-o-Joe. Looks like this special spice may change the standard coffee routine.
Lastly, Booze
Just kidding, but the world in 2017 is pretty stressful, so we won’t judge.
