The annual Billboard Women in Music Dinner and Awards Gala took place in Los Angele, California and the 2017 Woman of the Year is none other than Selena Gomez.
The goal of the event is to honour the most powerful women in the music industry and the 25 year old joins the list of previous winners such as Beyonce, Fergie, Pink and Taylor Swift.
Presenting the honour was Francia Raisa, close friend and actress, who donated her kidney to Gomez this year. She accepted the award, teary-eyed, and thanked her team and family for sticking with her through the hard times.
The singer has had a busy year with producing the Netflix TV series 13 Reasons Why and releasing new hit music on top of dealing with some health issues. “Thank you beyond for your acknowledgment and honour @billboard but honestly thank you more for the event you held for women.” she wrote on Instagram. “The night was so inspiring and every woman spoke eloquently and with such force. I’ll try to continue to give my best to even remotely live up to a title.”
Given all the movements in regards to women’s rights this year, it’s good to see time taken to honour the women that inspire us all.
