Charitable SA Celebs

One of my all-time favourite quotes is by Winston Churchill when he said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”

There is no greater act of kindness than when we give back to others. Just one selfless deed can change someone’s life. Here a few of our beloved celebs who take the time out of their busy lives to get involved with organisations to help others in need.

Charlize Theron

This South African actress is the founder of The Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project to help the fight against HIV in her home country. The non-profit organisation aims to help reduce the spread of HIV among the youth of South Africa. Theron is also a United Nations Messenger of Peace, promoting efforts to end violence against women.

Jo-Ann Strauss

The former Miss South Africa was a Celebrity Advocate for UNICEF and last year was made a National Ambassador. She raises awareness about all of the organisations work dealing with children’s rights.  She has also worked with hunger relief agency, Stop Hunger Now, as well as STOP, an anti-human trafficking organisation.

Thando Thabethe

In 2015, the actress started the campaign #MakeItStop which featured pictures of her and other celebs recreating images of abused women in order to raise awareness. In an interview with Bona, Thabethe said, “The purpose was to get people talking, and also make them uncomfortable so we can understand the magnitude of domestic violence. I want people to know and understand that it can happen to anyone.”
