How Celebs Spent Their 67 Minutes on Mandela Day

“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.”

These were the words of South African icon, Nelson Mandela. Mandela Day, July 18, is a day that commemorates what our great former President has done for our country. A key part of Mandela Day is to spend just 67 minutes of your day to help others. These are how some of our celebrities spend their Mandela Day.

Basetsana Kumalo in partnership with Ndileka Mandela, launched a new campaign called the Red Scarf Challenge, that is aimed to help girls in rural areas and informal settlements who cannot go to school during their monthly cycles.

AKA spent his Mandela Day performing for kids at Constitutional Hill in Johannesburg.

Refilwe Modiselle spent her 67 minutes packing food that will feed school children across South Africa with the Stop Hunger initiative.

Nonhle Themba spent her day painting at the Give Them Hope Care Centre in Pretoria.

Proverb sent out a tweet asking for 5000 retweets for @acerafrica so they can donate R5000 to the Heaven Night Shelter . When the goal was reached, he doubled the amount.

It is important to help those in need. Just like these celebs have given their time to others, so should we.
